Preparing for your outdoor expedition shouldn't be complicated. Here is a clear overview of our location, parking details, policies, and what you can expect when you visit Vesterkilde.
Welcome to our natural playground 🌲
Vesterkilde is located directly at the edge of the breathtaking Blåbjerg Klitplantage in Nørre Nebel. This incredible nature reserve features deep pine forests, heather-covered landscapes, and raw, uneven dirt trails. We are situated right across from the local dog forest (Hundeskov), making it the perfect starting point for nature lovers.
🧑🦽➡️ Accessibility: Because our adventures take place entirely on the raw, hilly, and off-road terrain of the plantation, the activities themselves are unfortunately not suitable for wheelchair users or guests with physical mobility challenges. However, you are always more than welcome to visit our Basecamp, enjoy a cold drink, and soak up the unique Vesterkilde atmosphere! ⛺
Arrival and Parking at the Basecamp ☕
Your experience starts the moment you arrive at Klintingvej 80. Forget sterile reception desks; we welcome you at our classic, breathable canvas Blue Moose tent.
- Parking & Driveway Etiquette: We offer on-site parking for up to 10 cars directly next to our tent. Please note that our driveway is a single-lane road—if you see a car approaching, just wait a moment and give each other space. 🚙
- Overflow Parking: On busy summer days, our main lot might be full. In that case, you can use the overflow parking area located just across the main road, about 100 meters from Basecamp. Look out for the small wooden post with a ‘P’ pointing left!
- Snacks & Drinks: Need an energy boost? Grab a cold local beverage or a snack from our fridge. We even sell treats for the dogs! 🧃
- Hydration: Fresh drinking water is always available and free for our four-legged guests.
Information on the Duration of our Experiences ⏱️
To help you plan your day, here is a quick overview of our standard expedition times:
Family Escape Tour: Approx. 2.5 hours (including a nice break at the Hovstrup shelters).
Tactical Escape Tour (12+): Approx. 2 to 2.5 hours of intensive puzzle-solving.
Off-Road Kickbiking (Nature Route): Up to 8 hours of freedom to explore the 18km trails or explore the area at freedom.
Off-Road Kickbiking (Family Route): 2 hours of active fun.
Dog Mushing: Bookable in 1-hour or 2-hour sessions.
Danish weather & rescheduling 🌧️
There is a famous saying in Denmark: “There is no bad weather, only bad clothing.”
Our adventures continue through typical Danish summer weather. The dense forest provides excellent cover, and muddy gear is part of the fun! We handle all the cleaning backstage at Basecamp. If the forecast looks truly miserable and you prefer to stay dry, you can reschedule your booking up to 24 hours in advance for a small administrative fee of 75 DKK. We only cancel completely from our side in the rare event of extreme, unsafe weather warnings. 🌩️
Protecting nature and (y)our dogs 🍃
As guests in the forest, we have a shared responsibility to protect the environment and our animals. Please respect the following rules:
Leave No Trace: We enforce a strict Leave No Trace policy. Do not leave any trash, plastic, or food wrappers in the forest. Please bring all your rubbish back to Basecamp, where we have plenty of bins available. Let’s keep Blåbjerg pristine. 🌲
The 15°C Mushing Rule: Dogs cannot sweat. To prevent life-threatening overheating, dog mushing is strictly prohibited between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM if the outside temperature exceeds 15°C. 🌡️
Mandatory Mushing Gear: If you book a mushing session, you must add our “Mushing Equipment” (antenna & bungee line) to your booking, and bring your dog’s own ergonomic pulling harness. (Need a harness? Visit our local partner ‘Land og Fritid’ here in Nørre Nebel).
